We Are Carlinville

Our History

Carlinville Intermediate School is located in Carlinville, Illinois. The town is approximately 50 miles south of Springfield, Illinois and 65 miles northeast of St. Louis, Mo. It is the county seat of Macoupin County, and is considered an outlying part of the Metro-East region of the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. Our proximity to Springfield and St. Louis provides students with many opportunities throughout the school year.
Our school is an integral part of the Carlinville community where it is based. This allows for a close-knit, small family feeling which enables us to build the confidence and self-esteem of all of our students from every walk of life. Through this positive school climate, children know they are in a safe place and therefore, are free to question, learn and grow.
We are a school of approximately 300 students. We serve students in third, fourth, and fifth grades. CIS is a Title I School. During the school year, we provide several programs such as an after-school program called ACES, running club, study buddies, and after-school enrichment programs. Throughout the school year, evening activities for families are also available such as movie, pizza talks, reading and science nights. These are organized by staff and provide many additional fun and enriching experiences for our students and their families
School staff, students and parents are very proud of the excellent educational opportunities that are provided at Carlinville Intermediate School. Our outstanding staff is committed and dedicated to providing an academic program that challenges each child as well as meets the social and emotional needs of each individual student. Our talented teachers collaborate extensively to ensure that a safe and nurturing learning environment is provided so that students can develop into independent, productive and responsible lifelong learners that will allow them to be successful in life. We are also proud of the technology available to our staff and students. We are excited about our mobile learning initiative that will include devices for each child to use as well as many other technology-based opportunities. Teachers are able to enhance and enrich the students’ learning experiences through the use of many different technologies.
Parents at CIS are actively involved through their participation in our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). We welcome all of our parents and staff to join and/or support the organization, and we appreciate the ways in which they enrich our school. Through the time and efforts of our many volunteers, we are able to support educational field trips, provided varied educational materials, and so much more.
Once again, Carlinville Intermediate School is dedicated to employing 21st Century learning strategies, which will prepare our students to be successful for life.
